Yoga can be intimidating at first. What's expected out of you? What should you bring? What the heck is the difference between Bikram and Yin Yoga? We want to help you start your journey off on the right foot! Keep reading for a short list of essentials for your very first yoga class.
1. Yoga Pants
In yoga, you need to be able to move with ease and comfort. Wear what feels right for you; be comfortable, not self-conscious! Try out our yoga collection for soft, flowy, and extremely comfortable and yoga-appropriate attire!
2. Yoga Mat
Though most studios provide mats, there's not necessarily a guarantee that one will be clean for you. A lot of mats are made from PVC, which is onne of the most toxic plastics. For a healthier practice, we recommend using an eco-friendly mat if you can!
3. Water Bottle
Staying hydrated throughout the entirety of the class is crucial. Yoga is a workout; drink lots of water before class, and drink lots after! Tip: If you're worried that you didn't drink enough water before the class, pick up some coconut water afterwards. It's a great source for electrolytes!
4. Yummy Snack
After an intense session, you may find yourself so hungry that you’re ready to gnaw your own arm off! Instead of that, come prepped with a snack; especially if you’re someone who struggles with low blood sugar. We recommend almonds, granola bars, or really anything that can give you a healthy dose of energy!
5. An Open Mind
When starting yoga for the first time, it is important to go in with an open mind. It’s easy judge yourself, other students, and even the instructor. Don’t expect yourself to be perfect, it’s you’re first class! Your flexibility level, keeping up with the flow, and understanding Sanskrit are not important. Focus on you and how YOU feel!
