Cruelty-Free Face: Top 10 Ethical Makeup Brands

Cruelty-Free Face: Top 10 Ethical Makeup Brands

by Emily Myint on

Animal testing remains to be one of the biggest problems in the cosmetic industry. Guilty brands include: MAC Cosmetics, Make Up For Ever, Benefit Cosmetics, L'Oreal, and Maybelline.

It is so important that we know which makeup brands test their products on animals. By not purchasing their products, we can try to eliminate animal testing completely. Many people don't know that there are actually over 100 cruelty-free makeup brands

Recently, California became the first state to ban cosmetic testing on animals. According to People, "the California State Assembly passed bill SB 1249, which will make it illegal to sell products, from makeup to deodorant, that has been - or include ingredients that have been - tested on animals." If this bill is signed into law, the change would go into place on January 1st, 2020. This is the first time we may see a major shift in the makeup industry regarding animal testing!

Thankfully, YOU can help in the fight to stop makeup brands from testing on animals! Shop consciously, learn which makeup brands are cruelty-free, and stop buying makeup from brands who are continuously testing on animals.

Here are our top 10 favorite cruelty-free makeup brands.

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills

Anastasia Beverly Hills is very well known for their brow products. In recent years, they have really expanded their selection of cosmetics to fully accommodate everyone who just loves makeup. Some of their other top-rated products are their contour and glow kits.

2. Beauty Bakerie

This is an up and coming brand that has become wildly popular, especially after becoming "Jeffree Star Approved." This independent cosmetics company is loved for their cute bakery themed products! For example, there are makeup sponges in an egg carton, foundation called "Cake Mix", and so much more. This brand is so fun and of course, cruelty-free!

3. Cover FX

Cover FX specializes in various foundations and concealers designed to be all-inclusive. Their massive collection of shades and undertones ensure no one is ever left out! Thanks to their specially formulated products, even those with acne or overly sensitive skin can enjoy the full coverage benefits!

4. e.l.f Cosmetics

Cruelty-free can be budget friendly! Most e.l.f. products range from $1-$5, SO MUCH CHEAPER than the brands you would find in Sephora! Unfortunately though, being inexpensive also means lower quality. Despite that, there are still some products that make for pretty decent dupes of high-end brands!

5. Physicians Formula

Physicians Formula is a brand that has hypoallergenic makeup. If you've got sensitive skin, you should definitely check them out!

6. Bite Beauty

If you are ever looking for an amazing lipstick, look no further! Bite offers high-quality products that come in a wide variety of shades and colors that are highly pigmented. Bite claims to be "healthy enough to eat,"  as they contain WAY less synthetics and potentially harmful ingredients than other brands!

7. Wet N' Wild Beauty

Another popular drugstore brand is Wet N' Wild. Like e.l.f., they are also fairly inexpensive. Their top rated products include their eye shadow palettes, and their MegaLast lipsticks.

8. Makeup Geek

Makeup Geek is a lesser known brand compared to the others in this list but still provides high-quality products. Their formulas are loved for being a cruelty-free version of MAC cosmetics. Makeup Geek also has 100% vegan and cruelty-free brushes!

9. BH Cosmetics

BH Cosmetics offers high quality products at an affordable price. They're best known for their bright and colorful eyeshadow palettes, contour palettes, and more!

10. ColourPop

Most people know who ColourPop because of their dupes to the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits. Consumers return to the brand because of the guaranteed beautiful pigment and HUGE color selection!

Switching to cruelty-free makeup brands is important for the consumers and the animals! Look for these brands at Sephora or your local drugstore and you may love these products more than the ones that are tested on animals.
